New Year's Resolutions?

No. I don't do those.

Instead, I've been inspired by Kate's "26 New Things before I'm 26" list to create my own list of tasks to complete before I'm 24, which I've added to the sidebar. I've got about 5 months to complete said tasks, and since I tried to stay within the realms of my reality, I think I'm good. I mean, I could have written "get a new boyfriend, preferably Daniel Day-Lewis," but I'm being realistic here.

And I hope everyone enjoys the coming of 2010. Just think, only a few more years until December 21, 2012...I'm already getting anxious (the superstitious old maid in me). But tonight I'll be enjoying a marathon of Strangers with Candy, that is after I watch the new episode of Jersey Shore; sounds like a fun night. Welcome to the life of Megan, who is stuck in Suburbia.

P.S. I love this cat animation, but he's giving me a bit of a headache.

Wednesday

Oh, the colors.

I know this is a few weeks old, and everyone's probably seen it already, but I am absolutely in love with this lovely lady's style. I want to be her (minus the short hair; been there, done that, looked like a boy):

I will definitely be doing the socks with wedges this spring.

Locket Lust

I haven't bought a new necklace in awhile, and these lockets from the Parisian trois petits points have been beckoning me for some time now:

Lost in Austen

Eh, movies. Like most, I adhere to a defined personal taste in film, with Spanish cinema being my favorite. However, like most, I like to shake things up every so often with some craptacular stuff. This evening, for example, I watched Year One and thought it was hilarious (even though Netflix predicted I give it a 2.1; in my Netflix's defense, it's usually pretty accurate). And sometimes I watch made-for-Disney-Channel movies. And I enjoy them.

And who isn't a fan of Masterpiece Theatre? Because if you're not, you need to be. Which brings me back to the point of this post. The other evening I couldn't fall asleep, so I took a few minutes to browse my Instant list. Like that stereotypical girl, when I saw a movie related to Jane Austen, I was all over it. The film: Lost in Austen, which (not surprisingly) was made as a British TV miniseries. I enjoyed it, though for those die-hard Austen fans (a category I do not lump myself in--in regards to literature and film--especially since I didn't think Colin Firth made a good Darcy), I recommend to stay away. Why, you ask? Some minor deviations from the plot of Pride and Prejudice: Jane marries Mr. Collins, Mr. Bingley becomes a drunk and ends his friendship with Darcy, Georgiana was the one who attempted to come on to Wickham and lied to her brother about it after she was denied, Wickham is actually a nice guy, Mr. Bingley runs away with Lydia (though he doesn't ruin her), Jane and Mr. Bingley plan to wed after an annulment from her marriage with Collins (and they plan to move to America), and apparently Caroline Bingley is a lesbian. You know, minor changes.

But like all good Pride and Prejudice adaptations, the Mr. Darcy in this one is one yummy dish, though I prefer (prepare for more sacrilege) Matthew Macfadyen's Darcy to any other. But here are some screenshots from when the film's protagonist (a modern Londoner sent back in time--and fiction) convinces Darcy to emerge from the fountain's water (for her entertainment) after he professes his love for her. Because that totally happened in the book.

Yum yum yum.

And while we're on the subject, Masterpiece Classic is revving up for its new season on January 10th! This Sunday you can catch the final installment of Cranford (Dame Judy!), which will then be followed by Return to Cranford and a new adaptation of Emma. This time of year makes me very happy!

Monday

P.S.

A crapload of Steven Alan has just been listed over on Laws of General Economy at really good prices. Just in case you didn't already know.

I am mildly obsessed with Comme des Garcons...

Mildly.

I am on the market for a new wallet, and have spent my evening scouring the internet for some new prospects. Once I realized I couldn't possibly afford this CdG gem unless I sold both my soul and body, I came to another realization that I could in fact transfer all of my crap in my current wallet to a small pouch. That's European, isn't it? Joke. Anyway, I've got my eyes on this one. And I know, it's bright. But green is one of my favorite colors (along with yellow), and the embossing is awesome.

via DSM

In an ideal world, I would then purchase this silver Ashley Watson card case, in addition to this In God We Trust coin pocket.

And after buying my CdG Play cardi, I have been salivating over one of the line's t-shirts. I don't wear t-shirts much these days, but I would make an exception for this one:

I am turning into such a CdG label whore. I blame it on seeing Gael Garcia Bernal wearing one of the line's shirts in that trailer for the movie he did with Michelle Williams. And I'm not linking to it right now, b/c I'm too lazy to find a link. Meh.

P.S. Blogger is pissing me off right now, b/c every time I try to upload different cropped photos of the wallet, it keeps lightening their color. So this one's not cropped and the perfectionist inside me is angry. I want to reach out and punch this application in its interweb face. Is it about that time of the month? TMI? Ugh.

Sunday

The test: can cats and dogs be friends?

Matt and I were Skyping with his cat, Felix, and my sister's dog, Dublin. His mom had to get Felix and bring him over a couple of times, so that's why you see her here (though you can't really see him):

Conclusion: the puppy was interested (part of the time), the cat not so much.

But they both got pretty bored.

Wren Kusum Tiered Tank

Wren is one of my all-time favorite designers, and even though its Autumn/Winter '09 collection has been out for awhile now, I'm only just starting to lust for this tank. It reminds me of Sunshine & Shadow's tanks, as it is 100% silk, but the print/colors and racerback detail are way cooler in my book. And there's a tiered detail near the hem. Divine.

Might have to take a trip to Philly to try it on since I'm back in PA...

This about sums up American Apparel:

Sorry, you don't fool me with that "made in America" schtick.

Saturday

Holy. Fucking. Shit.

I try not to curse on this blog because I don't want to offend anyone with my sailor pottymouth. But that was the first thing I thought when I saw the following video:

via Kill Rock Stars Blog

This is going to be me in 30 years when they finally develop a vaccine for cat allergies, painted-on eyebrows and all:

I get what you're doing, lady, taking in strays and feeding them. But that seems a wee bit cruel to keep 130 cats locked up in your tiny apartment. Unless cats dig living in a cat commune; I obviously don't know.

miaumiaumiau

The internet reminded me today that "meow" translates to "miau" auf Deutsch--way cooler, if you ask me. And I have a new blogcrush/artcrush on Fräulein Zucker of Dear Diary; (you know how I love those Germans). Her artwork is super super awesome, and I was über ecstatic to see her tattoo designs. Duh, they're of cats (well, some of them). Me thinks I want one done of her work (she is actually taking tattoo commissions).

I especially love the cat with the bird bubble (above the one drawn in black). I was thinking that it would look pretty awesome just as a line drawing (minus the bird bubble) with a red outline of a heart around it, since I've got a new thing for simple tattoos. And going with my German text theme, "miau" would be included somewhere. Herm, interesting, interesting...

That's a lotta booze.

I don't even know what to think about this story: an administrator from NYU's chemistry department was recently charged with grand larceny and falsifying business records after allegedly pocketing $400,000 of the University's money. How did he do it? He apparently submitted for reimbursement 13,000 liquor store receipts that he found by rifling through the trash. Even if the act weren't illegal, that's a lot of booze to be consumed by science students over a six-year period, geniuses.

What the heck is Boxing Day?

I have no clue, my Canadian, British, and non-Canadian-British friends, but I am quite pleased it is upon us. And I'll be sure to look it up on Wikipedia later. But in light of it being Boxing Day, there are some killer sales going on currently at some Canadian webstores (haven't checked out the British; the currency conversion kills me too much to do so). Hence why I was able to purchase my Diesel booties at 30% off over at Ssense (the sale there lasts for another 5+ days)! Huzzah!

I'm also really tempted to buy a Sunja Link dress at Mudshark Streetwear, but can't pony up that kind of cash right now. Shoes will get far more use!

Holy holidays dress

Me thinks this dress is utter perfection. However, I've bought from this seller before and she's a little uncommunicative and takes forever to ship. Plus, her prices are ridiculous. But the dress is gorgeous!

Remember this top?

Well it's now on super sale for $36 in all sizes over at Kaight, my new favorite online store find. As is this Mociun dress (well, not on super sale, but the first I've seen anything from this season on sale):

Ahhhh, Domahoka...

Friday

I dig, dig, dig this necklace and pair of leggings

Penelope's always reads my mind.

I don't know why I'm so obsessed with leggings these days, but it comes with the dress-wearing-territory, I guess.

Stephanie Congdon Barnes

I really am in love with her handmade pine cones. Perfect for this time of year.

Available in her shop, but currently all sold out.

Emery Cat

Just saw this ad on TV. The best cat noises and anatomical illustrations ever.

For those celebrating, Merry Christmas

I just woke up from a super long nap that I took after dinner and realized it's Christmas! Though it doesn't quite feel like the holiday this year due to certain circumstances, it has been nice hanging around the entire family. And at mass today, I saw my high school "boyfriend"! Quite a welcomed sight. And can you believe this was the first time I wore my Rachel Comey Retractor Dress after owning it for about 3 months (minus the turquoise slip, since it would all be a little too short and scandalous for church)? It was an awesome wardrobe experience, obviously.

Head-to-toe Comey! Didn't make my DIY tights, but bought the fabric paint to do so, so I might do that tomorrow (or today, I mean).

Oh, and don't mind the mess of my brother's room. That's all my crap, and some of his.

Enjoy your day, laydayz!

Doodlers Anonymous Coloring Book, Vol. I

I love all of the coloring books that are popping up these days.

Thursday

I lied: one more post

This adorable APC sweater is currently for sale over at Laws of General Economy:

My heart died looking at it.

Oh wait, it was first come, first serve, so it's gone. Damn.

Because I will probably be in a drunken stupor for the next 2 days...

...I'm posting this now:

It's been a sheisty past couple of months, so I can do that kind of thing.

And a shot of my sister's puppy, adorned with all sorts of plastic:

Happy holidays, meine Freundinnen. I'll catch up with you on the flipside.

Forgotten Bookmarks: Ginger Anyhow Embroidered Text Messages

This was actually one of the first bookmarks I made when I got this computer, and I have always had a special place in my heart for this project. I was originally convinced that these were a collection of messages from a variety of sources, but it dawned on me today that they seem to progress during a single relationship (duh, Megan). Text messages really do allow for an interesting anthropological study.

Reading these makes me sad, but at the same time humanizes other people for me. You see, I live in this delusional world where I'm the only one who has relationship problems, and everyone else is enjoying the high life. Glad to see that's not the case, even though I don't wish that upon other people.

I also enjoyed the section on Ginger's website with her two NY Times "writing samples."
