Is it sad that the farthest west I have ever gone in the US is Austin, TX? This is what happens when you are one of four children and have a CPA for a mother and a civil engineer for a father, both of whom are among the most frugal people...ever.
Anyway, Sanjay Patel will be presenting his new book, Ramayana: Divine Loophole, at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco on Saturday, and I am very envious of anyone able to go. I wrote my final paper in my senior seminar (a class on South/Southeast Asian divinities in art) on the globalization of Hindu dieties using Patel's Little Book of Hindu Dieties as my primary source/framework (my teacher said she was a little skeptical at first, but that she enjoyed the final outcome...is it a coincidence that she was my favorite art history professor at NYU? psych, she was cool for other reasons...). I later ordered some of Sanjay's prints off his website and he sent me a personal note. Needless to say, I love Sanjay, and wish I could support him more. Hence why I plan on ordering his new book. And Rama is such a hunk, anyway, I would be stupid not to.
Oh, P.S. Did I mention Sanjay's an animator for Pixar?

This looks very cool.
ReplyDeleteEngineer dad club! They are so funny/awkward/borderline asperger's.
I am in Amerikah. Woop!
hahahaha TELL ME ABT IT
ReplyDeleteand I'm so jealous of your roadtrip, dude! esp since I've never really been to the south/west coast...I can't wait to see pictures!
Whoa. My mom = accountant, dad = civil engineer. I guess a less unusual combo than I would've thought? In any case, thanks for the link, his art is super cool. And you should definitely come to the West Coast someday. I live on both coasts but I'm biased, the West is just awesome.
ReplyDeleteTHAT'S SO FUNNY! excuse the capitalization, but I too understand the unusualness of that match...and you live on both coasts? do you go to school on one and home is another? and one of these days, whenever I can afford it, I am going to have a massive roadtrip out there...or maybe move, hah
ReplyDeleteHaha yeah, I've lived on the West Coast my whole life, but I've been going to school in New England for the past year. Definitely roadtrip out west, or at least fly west and drive up and down the coast. Some of my favourite kid-memories are of driving down the Oregon Coast on the way to San Fran.
ReplyDeleteAnd I actually have a friend whose parents are the same accountant-civil engineer combo, too. We're just a special breed.
no way! I guess that combo attracts each other...my parents are both super frugal, so it makes sense...
ReplyDeleteand I have never been to New England, either! and I'm from PA...this should make sense after reading the first paragraph, and that I'm one of four kids...I need a real job so I can live, man...
