In the interest of shared bralette research: I decided a few weeks ago that I desperately needed to restock my bralette collection, as my Am Appy jams were soooooo undergrad (they were so old I probably bought them then, too). I thought to myself, I'm salaried now! I can invest in quality! So I did, and since I refuse to wear anything besides the bralette, I present you with my findings in that field. Perhaps they may be of some use to others; they're ranked in order of personal preference:
No. 1 Huit Cupcake Soft Cup Bra This bralette could almost pass for a t-shirt bra, which is the ultimate test for me. It's super soft, the color is gorgeous, and the "cupcakes" are adorable. I will definitely be buying more from this brand and/or duplicates of this bra.
No. 2 Clo Dulce Soft Bra Not really that practical for everyday wear, but the band is so comfortable, I love emerald green, and it's super, super saaaaxy.
No. 3 Cosabella for J.Crew Ceylon Bra I have to give credit to Joyce for turning me on to this bra (and its beautiful color). At first, I didn't think it provided enough support, but after wearing it a few times I realized it indeed does and that I love it. But it's sold out online! I would try the brick and mortar stores instead, which is where I bought mine a few weeks ago, as they were backordered at that point online. Personally, I want to do the same to see if I can score the bra in nude.
No. 4 Eberjey Delirious Triangle Bralet I have to say I am majorly disappointed by this bra. Like most--I'm sure--I've been craving it for over a year now, but it really provides little support (and I feel like there are so many other options for vivid shades, which I think is the initial reason I wanted it). I feel like I'm going to rip it every time I put it on, but I guess it's made to stretch. Nevertheless, I've worn it best with a loose-fitting tank or dress.

pretty! but do they really hold up your boobs? good timing on this post because my utilitarian bras are bumming me out.
ReplyDeletethese are all soo pretty, and I'm glad to read reviews on them. hard to find a pretty bra that is comfy and supportive !
ReplyDeletewell I suppose luckily enough for me, gracie, my mother's genes endowed me with small enough boobs to fit into the bralette, though I fluctuate back and forth between the sizes, depending upon brand (I'm a 36A, though I feel like my recent winter food indulgences might have changed that...temporarily, anyway)...but they do keep the boobs up! the first three, anyway...eberjey delirious = major fail...the Huit is actually specific to cup size, and I think it ventures into the B's and C's...I got a medium w/the J.Crew/Cossabella one, but I would have probably chosen a large if I could have tried it on there, so I guess it's not best for bigger cup sizes...and I'm not sure abt the Clo, b/c I haven't worn it yet, but I got a medium w/that and it seems to fit pretty well...
ReplyDeleteand I'm glad I could be of assistance, Marisa! the first and third are indeed that!
oh furg. lucky you. my tits are massively sagging and need NASA technology fabrics.
ReplyDeletehahahaaaaaaaaaa
ReplyDeleteI suppose we all have our own boob issues, then...I sometimes worry that the bralettes and their lack of coverage show too much nipple under a fitted dress whilst working amongst the teenage boys...hence why I feel like a grandma with my "school appropriate" wardrobe these days...I was wearing a mumu to school the other day and some kid asked me if I was pregnant...AS IF.
hello, sexy!
ReplyDeletetotally inexpensive, great colors and decent support - american apparel stretch floral lace bra (http://store.americanapparel.net/rsals319.html?cid=219)
ReplyDeletei'm going to try that cupcake bra!
that's a shame about the failingness of the eberjey one, because as soon as i saw your picture my eyes immediately wanted that one. or should i say my boobs immediately wanted that one? either way. a shame.
ReplyDeletei love bralettes, but lately i've been buying a ton of cute (i.e. not super-hardcore-supportive) sports bras to wear during, like, around the abode time. why? i don't really know. but they're (surprisingly) cute. and comfortable. and I'm into it. although if anyone looked through my bra collection, they'd think - "she must exercise a lot".... not so much.
I wish I could be a bralette type of girl! but, yesssss I love Huit too!
ReplyDeleteoh my god. You are such a legend. I need this so bad. I thought I was the only one who is willing to talk about underwear.
ReplyDeleteI am also blessed with the teeniest, tiniest perky little girls and I hate the feel of underwire. So that mean bralettes all the way for me. Unless I am trying to impress and then I might whip out the underwire. That's pretty much never now that I am getting hitched.
I do love the look of that Clo bra. I don't wear lacy things though. Which is why I am pining for a review of the VPL bralettes. Anyone?
I don't know why people worry about a bit of nip. I am a total prude but I never think about it. Although I am not around teenaged boys all day.
On a slightly related issue, do you wear clothes that you think are totally hip but the young ones think are totally uncool? I am having that problem lately. I really didn't think I was over it yet, and I am only 30!
As an actual current undergrad, I am unfortunately not at the point where I can invest in quality. BUT, I can enjoy your insightful commentary as usual, and their prettiness! Although I hate buying bras, mostly because I've never found one that wasn't too big... the curse of flatchestedness. Bralettes seem like they could address this issue.
ReplyDeletethaaanks for sharing these! the internet is lacking in sufficient bralette knowledge. i personally love all bralettes, big and small and being a Euroblogette I tend to pick the prettiest ones up in Topshop when I'm in need
ReplyDeletejoyce--you're making me blush!
ReplyDeleteroberta jane--I will have to try that! and, yes, do try the cupcake!
mallory--duuuude, totally good plan! do you have any suggestions, b/c I was thinking of investing in that front, as well, since I like to be totally caj (the only phonetic spelling I can think of instead of saying "casual")
melly--it was such a serendipitous find, since I wasn't very learned on that front before! total score
belinda--hahahaaaa...I totally agree w/everything you've said...I was a total frump during my last longterm relationship...I didn't give two craps abt what I looked like, since I had no one to impress...I miss that......and I remember being younger and watching Speed 2 and being totally jealous of Sandra Bullock not wearing a bra in her tshirt; looks so liberating and comfortable! but I could never be that bold...and, YES, I get criticized by the children all the time for my clothing, but mostly it's just a few kids that do it often instead of it being a bunch...I have a bunch of students who compliment my clothes and my random color combinations, but I also have this kid that totally hates me and told me I look like I shop at thrift stores because he thought that was an insult...it hurt my feelings a bit, since I spend a lot to look like a bum, I suppose, but at least I don't think Nike and Hollister are at the pinnacle of fashion...oh, middle school...
courtney--I totally understand, dude...but luckily Am Appy's bras aren't that bad, though the ones from Urban are usually shit...or the ones I've gotten, anyway...and even american eagle has some decent ones...I remember when I was in undergrad and a $16 top from Am Appy was an expense, even with a work study job...but that was freshman year, then I got a credit card and ran into some financial problems......
ana--how I envy your proximity to Topshop! they have some bras right now that I want, as a matter of fact...and I totally agree! there isn't enough out there for us girls who are small on top!
heyyy, thanks darlin! you rock. have an excellent week!
ReplyDeletei bought a really nice bralette from gap over spring break -- it was 30% off too, so that sweetened the deal. that cupcake bra looks hottttttttt!
ReplyDeletei will say just avoid UO bralettes because they shred after one wearing!
Well, JEEEEZ LOUISSSSE. You underwear collection is WAY fancier than mine. I have the rattiest, boringest under-things EVER. I think I might just be inspired to get some perrrrty!
ReplyDeleteGiiirrrrrrrlll, this is an amazing post.
ReplyDeleteI have fun-sized funbags, but I need a bra to stave off that "puffy nipple" thing that happens to me with most bralettes.
Could you possibly give each bra a nipplage rating? How much they show? Or maybe what each bra looks like under a white T-shirt—the ultimate test.
I would appreciate that a lot. But still, awesome post. Brasome.
yeeeeeeah, gurl : )
ReplyDeletelexie--nice score, man! and I totally agree, Urban has sucky quality...everything...
lindsay--SAME HERE, MAN, same here...until like 2 wks ago...
sarah--I know what you mean! let's see if I can break this down:
1) isn't perfect like w/a t-shirt bra, b/c it's got the seams there, but the coverage is pretty good
2) non-existent...no-go
3) I would say just a bit below the coverage of the first...I think what's more visible is the detail on the bra, all that fancy stuff
4) shit. total shit coverage. not even sexy off, though, like #2. or maybe my boobs are just weird/I'm too fat. psych I knew that.
oh, and under a white t-shirt...don't really know, since I don't own any...but I know #3 comes in nude...plus I wear shirts loose, so I don't know....hmmmmm...sorry I can't be of more help!
BRASOME!
Thanks so much for the response. You are awesome.
ReplyDeleteno problem, dude!
ReplyDeleteThese lingerie pieces are so incredibly pretty.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this. I thought I was the only one who talked bralettes and lingerie on my blog. I have been looking at all of the bras you featured, so it's good to have the inside scoop on them.
ReplyDeleteI am extremely flat chested so bralettes are my go too. Cosabella is one of my favorite brands because they fit smaller chests well and the colors are beautiful.
good to know...thank you, Lindsay!
ReplyDeletejust found your blog via jennifer's - thanks for this review! even though i'm not super tiny bust-wise, i despise underwire bras and am always on the hunt for barely-there bralettes.
ReplyDeleteugggh, so do I, man! I completely understand...
