SNOW DAY

I never thought I'd be able to enjoy inclement weather as much as I do now in my twenties. I can really get into this teaching thing.

I decided to take a few photos of my new immediate surroundings during the downtime. It's so nice to have your things out of storage, serving their proper function instead of being sequestered in (mice-infested) cardboard boxes.
On another note, I was lucky enough to score the Dunderdon lj35 parka from Ming on LoGE (which is making a partial appearance in the above third photo), and I'm absolutely infatuated. It's super warm and there's this secret pocket that I'm obsessed with (for lodging metro cards). Plus it's quite chic. Buy that shit; it's on sale now.

Wednesday

Universal Works' Fell Jacket

I would like this. In my closet. Come Spring.

And you have to love that VAT discount.

Though I swear on my Rachel Comey shoe collection, that which is most divine, I'm buying this first. I swear, I swear, I swear.

Sunday

does anybody know...

...what these earrings are called? I know these images of Marian Kihogo have been around the blog circuit the past week, so I know you must have seen them. And I don't do dangly earrings, but I desperately want some of these... But I don't know what to google... AHH. Ear cuffs! Thank you, Laura and Sabrina!

Does anybody know where you can score some sweet ones? My google search is proving one-dimensional. Plus my internet is slow today.

Wednesday

my five are so boring...

Jennifer ever so kindly tagged me with a "five daily essentials" post. But outside of my clothes, multicolored tights, and rotating jewelry regimen, my accessories and necessaries are pretty boring. So below are the five things I require every single day of my present life, though they shouldn't arouse much excitement:
1. My pouch for the face paint. Must cover up all those horrid blemishes. And add a little rouge, etc. And though this bag has seen better days, it fits everything I need and is still nice to look at. From Andy eats only candy on Etsy.

2. A pair from my holy trinity of glasses. Frames ought to be the best accessory a four-eyed girl has (in my opinion), so they must look good, and there must be options. I will never go below having a harem of three frames to choose from again. Warby Parker Huxley's shown in Tennessee Whiskey.

3. Nivea chap stick. The best chap stick known to man, in light of its girth (bah). And I don't do organic crap; this brand gets the job done. I highly recommend the berry flavor, as it moisturizes amazingly and leaves a nice berry tint on your lips.

And if you ask all of my previous roommates (friends and family), they will report that the most common phrase I utter is, "Where's my chap stick?" Because I lose this shit all the time, and I have an addiction to tend to.

4. My computer. This baby is indispensable right now, with work and all this blog shiz. Sheeeet.

5. My Kanken, laptop style. This thing has been on my back since I bought it a year ago. It never leaves that side of Megan. It's perfect for toting around the laptop, and I can amass all my other crap in the front pockets, which are quite the mess (if this were a what's-in-my-bag post, you wouldn't even want to know).

And since I never really re-tag people with these things, but feel like there are a few certain blog friends of mine that I don't give enough shoutouts to, I want to send this along to Chau, Lexie, Elizabeth, and Julie, if they so choose to accept my spam. Much love.

Though I do have many, many more blog friends that I love : )

Monday

bleeeng

Turns out I didn't lose my USB cord for my camera in the packing/unpacking. It was right there in my camera box, logically placed but illogically ignored.

I fished it out to document some of the newish hand candy I've acquired over the past few months (forgive me for some repetition): Plum Jewelry (mine's silver, ordered from the designer via Thistle & Clover), Dream Collective, vintage (pinky ring!), and vintage. I apologize for the random sweater hair in the latter; I was wearing it the other day and it got caught on everything. And everyone should really buy the DC Braille ring; it's fantastic and works on so many different fingers.

I've also been rewatching the first two seasons of Skins over the past few weeks. I still can't believe they made an American version that's, uh, essentially taken verbatim from the original (at least that's what it seems in the previews for the pilot). But curiosity may get the best of me and I may tune in. Btw, did anyone watch the third season? Did they ever mention what happened to Sid/Cassie/everyone, or must we still surmise? I really wish Chris hadn't, you know... Don't want to ruin it for anybody...again.

Saturday

ace & jig s/s 2011

After how pleased I was with both the material and craftsmanship of ace & jig's premier collection this past fall--in addition to the beautiful cuts and styles--I'm obviously looking forward to Cary and Jenna's designs for the spring and summer. How good is that red/pink combo? And lord knows I love crop tops.
So much striped goodness to choose from...

P.S. Kaight Shop is having some pretty stellar sales at the moment, with the prices of both the Whit brown belted mini and Sublet Deborah dress (in wine and champagne) slashed by $100+. I hesitate to share these things, since I've been lusting after both for months+ now, but then again, I'm pretty broke after moving...

Wednesday

the progress of things

Damn guys, these past two weeks have been a little overwhelming. I started my month of "student teaching," which will transition into my official teaching career February 1st. Needless to say, that's been a little exhausting, working 12-hour-days plus the commute. Plus endless amounts of homework. I haven't had any proper time to be on the prowl for hotties in the new neighborhood! AND THEN BDiH has been getting a helluvah lot of attention, including a shoutout on Jezebel. Over the past two days I've gotten just about the same number of subscribers there as I have with this blog, which is crazy, since this has been going on for much longer. Plus there's so much more pressure now to not make super lame posts! Aggggh! I need a vacation.

One thing that made my day, though--which I had to share--was the above. I'm placed right now in an Autistic support classroom, working with older students with lower-functioning Autism. There's one student that's obsessed with everything from the 80's, cartoons and Michael Jackson included. He loves MJ so much that he's enveloped his own name with Michael Jackson's, which I didn't pick up on at first; I just thought his parents really loved the King of Pop. Then when I was leading a lesson yesterday on writing shopping lists, he went over to the computer to type his and also typed the above phrase, spelling my name perfectly (I didn't even know that he knew my last name). So I've been officially accepted into the fold. Plus, he added his own last name, more so I think because he can no longer disassociate it with Jackson's. Amidst all the craziness, it's nice to have a moment like this that reminds you why you love teaching.

Saturday

The Kitty Cat Fleece and Tee

New additions to Leah's etsy shop. That Kitty Cat Fleece looks sooooo comfy...and her prints are so rad.

Wednesday

Flavorwire is rad, and other things

(This picture's for you, Lauren. I thought of you when I took it and now I'm thinking of you as I'm posting it.)

I'm currently watching something on PBS about these 30- and 40-year-old European guys who do synchronized swimming as a serious hobby. I think they're near the breaking point in the documentary, though, because they're getting frustrated and their "gigs are drying up." The reasons to relocate to Europe are obvious.

On another note, Caroline from Flavorwire had emailed me a few weeks ago about doing a post on BDiH, and you can read the interview--to which I contributed some pretty convoluted sentence structure--here. Pretty rad, though I don't really agree with the sole commenter asserting that I'd totally definitely absolutely be into a number of guys currently on Death Row. Because I'm totally into serial killers.

And no more of the vanity posts, I swear. Just needed to return the favor. And post this sexy gnome. Plus I haven't been able to find the USB cord for my camera after the move, so......
