Friday

in which there is swag

It's the end of the workday! For me, at least... Guess what else is rad on this Friday afternoon? Lilian of boyfren/girlfren emailed me and wants to do a giveaway. That means some lucky fool is going to score a boyfren/girlfren people pouchYeeeeeeeah, young bulls.

To become The Chosen One you must perform one very important task: choose three Disney princes or princesses to play Kill/Marry/Fuck with (feel free to use asterisks if you aren't a pottymouth like me). AND--since my friend and I have been trying to settle this debate for years--add who you think is hotter: Human Beast or Beast Beast from Disney's Beauty and the Beast (NOT from the live action version).

That is all! Submit your thoughts by Wednesday the 2nd at midnight (PST) and I'll post a winner sometime Thursday morning evening. And leave an email that I can reach you at.

Happy Friday! Get it, get it...

Thursday

god bless the HR department

There is nothing more to say, nothing at all...

Tuesday

why I love my internet friends

A ways back, Jennifer made mention of her contribution to the now-defunct Coloring Book Club (I have failed you guys, haven't I?). Upon hearing of her proposed concept, I knew I had to have a copy of it for myself. And though I still haven't been able to sink my teeth into the latest cast of Law & Order (SVU all the way!), I do appreciate my Jeremy Sisto. And clearly so does Jennifer.

For good reason; I don't think you can top his "career" summary on Wiki: "At a young age, he appeared in the Twisted Sister video 'We're Not Gonna Take It.' Sisto played a killer in Hideaway, a rich spoiled brat in Clueless and White Squall, Jesus and Julius Caesar in the eponymous mini-series, a patient diagnosed with multiple personality disorder in Inside, a former drug addict in Thirteen, and an abusive husband in Waitress." He even produced an unreleased movie with Ethan Embry (!), and his sister was the daughter in Captain Ron. Heaps and mountains of epicness.

Jennifer had said she has plans to send off a copy to Detective Lupo/Billy Chenowith himself. I hope you do, man, and that he sends you back his phone number. And maybe Sam Waterston's, too (Killing Fields-era Waterston, anyone?).
In addition to some other really beautiful things, Chau has been making these lovely brooches, seen over on her blog. I'm really excited to see where she goes with them.

Happy Tuesday, people! PS: SNOW DAY!

Thursday

what the fuck are they saying?*

* ^^ it's just an audio clip

Is that Flemish? I don't understand. But this is killer: BDiH got a shoutout on a radio station in Belgium on V-Day. I don't know what the fuck they're saying, but I like it. They're laughing when they mention the Girl Scouts, so I like it.

If you understand even a few words, please email me. My German only goes so far in dissecting other European languages.

Street Carnage also did a shoutout the same day. It's like a dream of mine has been fulfilled, appearing on the same site as Street Boners. I also love all the straight-man hate for Juliette Gordon Low, "Anne Hathaway's more boring cousin."

I don't understand men.

And the jam for the weekend. I'm peacing out to DC for some much needed R+R, during which time we're hoping to find a used copy of that movie and watch it.

You guys have heard about this, right?

When my mother learns of it, I suspect I'll be receiving/enduring a very lengthy phone call. Old people just don't understand blogging/the internet.

But it's got me feeling paranoid. Oh, teaching.

Wednesday

I want these:

Or these:
From Phosphorescence. Both are part of a collab with Erin Wasson, but there are also pairs done in tandem with United Bamboo and Opening Ceremony. Available at Art in the Age (a + b).

Tuesday

Erin Considine - IMMRAMA

I'm really in love with the pieces and lookbook from Erin's Spring collection, IMMRAMA. After doing a trade with her this past Fall, I became a huge fan of her metalwork, dyeing and braiding techniques, and overall use of materials. For realz, I wear my Wick necklace at least once a week. Hence why I'm really aching to own the Cupla necklace.

But really, the metalwork looks amazing this season. And that shiz is already selling out! Must get my pennies together... I've seen the pieces sprinkled about in Erin's shop, at Spartan, Pour Porter, Beklina, Dear Fieldbinder, and Anica--take your pick.

Monday

this is a product...

...of me rewatching Pirate Radio and having nothing to do yesterday:

And also of going binge shopping with Jennifer. Don't tell my mother; she'll have me skinned alive.

I hope my haphazardly assembled video didn't give you too much of a headache. This whole thing was an afterthought.

Wednesday

yummy yummy on my tummy

New designs from Leah!
The bacon top's probably my favorite, though the hot dogs and chicken nuggets tie for second.

via Lillian and Simple Things, since I'm not as on top of things as I thought I was : )

Tuesday

another reason I will be poor this Spring...

I've officially decided I'll be investing in a Bodkin piece this Spring, namely the Baobab dress. If anyone sees it come available, please keep me in mind/updated; I've already seen pre-orders for a few pieces over at Kind Boutique...found it at Kaight...for 425 smackaroos...

My credit card hates me right now.

Monday

someone wrote me a haiku

My friend's boyfriend, that is; I think he did an apt job at encapsulating my whole being in 17 morae. Because apparently there are people who name their cats "Megan." And the dog in Blue Valentine? It's sin enough giving a child that name--no offense, other Megan's.

That same weekend at a happy hour for our teaching program--perhaps reason for me later bailing on bowling and being labeled a consummate lightweight--I chatted with a fellow fellow about his folk(ish) band from Baltimore. Checkitout...I was grooving to the jams a few snow days back. Now I'm jamming to the Beach Boys...yeeeeeah...

Sunday

recent acquisitions...

...from the past few weeks:
I bought a drawing from Becca. As I've said before, I love both her aesthetic and the subject matter she depicts in her work, so methinks this is the perfect first acquisition for my original art wall...for whenever I buy a nail...and more artwork...
The lovely Cary and Jenna of Ace & Jig sent me a dress (cray-zay), which I wore--and I'm not lying--three days in a row after receiving it (to brunch, to lunch, and to work). I would model it for you like I did with my other Ace & Jig dress, but I have since realized how horrible a model I am (psych--I always knew that). Nevertheless, the dress is super comfortable, it goes with everything, and I am again amazed by the fabric they use (the geometry, the geometry!). And I'm not just saying this b/c I was sent some swag, but Ace & Jig is one of those smaller brands that I've been consistently pleased with the quality of--design-wise and materials/construction--so I'm really looking forward to the line's S/S '11 collection (crop tops! maxi dresses!).

Anorak was (and still is) having a 50% "Silly Sale," so I finally bought one of their sleeping bags, as I do overnights at the Zoo a couple of times a month. However, between the time I ordered the bag and received it, I reached the conclusion that I was 99.9% sure I would be quitting my Zoo job so I could have time off on the weekends and time to devote to a new project that's popped up. So now I have this awesome sleeping bag but no use for it. Perhaps I'll use it as an extra quilt for the living room...
Or make it into a fort...

(My mom got me those dog slippers for Christmas, in addition to a night-shirt-dress-thing that has a cat on it and says "DON'T MESS WITH MEOW".)

Thursday

a penpal I wish was my own

Jennifer posted the most amazing scan the other night, of someone's letter from the 80's that came into her possession. It is perfection, so well-written and made me laugh my ass off. Why can't I know more people like this in the present?
"I seem to have a hard time with friends, much less sexually involved friends. So sometimes I think in my dreams of him and other times I think he's dead."

Oh, and there's more.
