Ilana Kohn Summer 2011

No doubt you've already seen pictures from Ilana's current collection; the cuts and fabrics are gorgeous, so that's inevitable. But what I really love about her latest designs is that they're customizable, in fabric and length. Take the afore-featured customized Kate dress, taken from Ilana's blog. Pretty spot-on for the summer.

See more of the styles here. I'm really digging those longer lengths, Ilana!

Also, I would be hugely amiss if I didn't give my internet props to Julia and her latest collection. Obviously, I'm the last person on this earth to do so.  : )

Wednesday

A little part of my soul died today when I watched the series finale of the Wire and realized there would be no more Omar/Bubbles/Freeman/Carver/Bunk in my life. Even fucking McNulty, I'm gonna miss him. It was a good three-month, Netflix-enabled relationship, but now I'm moving on to something else.

I am walking away with some Senator Davis colloquialisms, though. Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit, partner.

Monday

ace & jig giveaway!

Long story short, the stupendously lovely Jenna and Cary of Ace & Jig contacted me about doing a giveaway, so here we are! Up for grabs is the red stripe crop cardi from the duo's Spring/Summer 2011 collection in a size small (my personal favorite from the season, and it would definitely fit a handful of sizes in light of its cut). As I'm lucky enough to own the cardi myself (in addition to two other Ace & Jig dresses), I can attest to the fact that it does not disappoint: the colors are gorgeous, the fabric's beautifully made, and the boxy cut is ueber flattering.

Now the specifics. To be the Chosen One this time you must answer the following: if you could be any dinosaur, (1) which genus would you choose and (2) what would you call/name yourself? Feel free to reference this for inspiration (I really miss that show). ALSO, like Ace & Jig on Facebook and secure yourself a second chance at winning. The Chosen One will be chosen at random this Saturday, July the 2nd, so comment by 10 a.m. EST on Saturday to be considered. Just make sure you include an email address in your comment that I can reach you at if you win!

Get it, get it!

Wednesday

favorite rap lyric of the day (pt. 2)

Put in words I can understand.

Monday

RING RING, HOOKAH, RING RING.

Jennifer reminded me that there are trailers/promos (1 + 2) and such to watch for the new season of True Blood this Sunday (I'd rather have posted a screen cap from said videos of dear Jason Stackhouse, but I wasn't quick enough, and Beeeeeell looks ugly as ass with his new haircut). But, hookah, does this season look saucy as shit. ERICANDSOOKIEARETOTALLYGONNAGETITON! Any other salacious predictions out there???

Wednesday

I had the most massive of headaches today, and thus spent my prep periods curled up next to my computer listening to the afore-featured song on loop. I watched Fallen Angels the other day and loved the fact that there were so many relatable characters (minus the whole hit man subplot, but whatever), and also that it brought back into my life the jam from one of my favorite* videos of all time. Such a satisfying ending.

And fuck this. I'm tired of hearing about this shit. Fuuuuuck the internet.

*kidding. looking back on that post makes me feel like such an ass.

Monday

I made a coloring book zine, one I was supposed to make a million years ago but never got around to doing (I'm lazy like that).
Thankfully I had a little helper to help move along the process. Kidding. She totally got in the way of everything. (I apologize for all the damn pictures of the dog on this page).

Email me if you want to do a zine swap. Mine's pretty shitty, but I'll throw in a pencil. Because mail is the tops.

Friday

Marta makes the best rings. These are my new favorites.

Wednesday

NOOOOOO! Say it ain't so, gay dListed boyfriend! Not Jason Stackhouse!

Because I thought everyone would like to know and I have nothing else to talk about.

I now have Weezer playing on a loop in my head. I fucking hate Weezer.

Saturday

Deadweight, male continence, perpetual dress envy...

I received a package of awesomeness today, a.k.a. the cards I ordered from Deadweight. I'm sure you've seen Sandi's shop by now, full of its screen-printed radness. And Sandi's in a band. I wish I were legit enough to be in a band, but the only instruments I'm adept at playing are the flute and piccolo. Actually, I'd rather just dye my hair a cool color, as I'm envious of this contingent of teenage girls at my school with candy-colored locks. They're like pseudo-goth and glare at me when I pass them on the sidewalk every morning. If only they knew how badly I wanted to be one of them! A.k.a. wish I had a phase like that in my childhood...

Digression aside, Sandi's skilled with the screen printer and I plan on hoarding more of her stuff, hopefully including these cards.

And guess what, guysss?! 13 more days of work and I'm FREEATLAST for two months! I'm trying to convince my sister of taking an overnight trip with me to the Oneida Community mansion--solely because she has a car/clean driving record (sorry, Mallory)--but I'm not sensing a shared enthusiasm from her end. I mean, I assumed that since she went to grad school for history she'd be as excited as I by the prospect of spending the night in possibly the same room where all that complex marriage, male continence stuff went down, buuuuuut...I guess not.

P.S. Can someone please make this dress for me?

Wednesday

I spent last weekend in my sister's (air conditioned) apartment, braving the outdoors a handful of times in order to meet up with Joyce and Jennifer at the sale in the Mociun pop-up shop, score some Schwartzwälder Kirschtorte, etc. I found some pretty decent pieces/deals at the sale, including a Mociun dress sample, the above Manoooooogian bracelet, and--finally, FINALLY--Erin Considine's Cupla necklace (I'll take a photo of that another time).

I then came home to a cake in my freezer and two new AC's installed in my windows. After years of doubting my parents' taste in gifts, they surprised me, in a major way. That being said, this coming electricity bill is gonna be a biiiiiiiitch...
